As part of its innovation component, the West Créatives Industrie programme is launching the Interdisciplinary Innovation Programmes (IIP), which aim to respond to the concrete challenges of societal, environmental, digital or industrial transitions through the prism of the user experience and innovation of use.

The three winning projects of the AMI launched at the end of 2020 aim to federate multidisciplinary Research-Innovation thematic consortia associating researchers and socio-economic players in the Pays de la Loire.

The world must carry out profound transformations in order to face up to current challenges, particularly those linked to the climate, inequalities, environmental degradation, prosperity, peace and justice, as underlined by the UN in the definition of its sustainable development objectives. In response, economic actors and territories throughout Europe are engaging in transition processes, which are bringing out challenges with multiple dimensions. For a large part of the challenges that these issues raise, the notion of human experience is central, and taking it into account in innovation processes is indeed a fundamental lever for supporting transitions by generating individual and collective changes.

An IIP federates, over a period of at least 36 months, multidisciplinary Research-Innovation thematic consortia associating researchers from at least two different disciplines and at least one socio-economic player from the Pays de la Loire. An IIP aims to accelerate the accessibility of academic expertise and to stimulate and structure collaborations with the socio-economic world. It must implement a research and innovation programme, combining academic and industrial interests, which will make it possible to generate interdisciplinary scientific knowledge on the design and evaluation of the human experience and provide a concrete response to one or more transition challenges encountered by the region’s stakeholders.

Each Interdisciplinary Innovation Programme is a space for exchange between the project leaders and any other interested academic or socio-economic actor who would like to be associated with the reflection or experiments that will be conducted.

IIP – PEEL

Health is one of the fields most impacted by transitions and in particular the inclusion of digital technology. The central objective of the “Patient Experience Evaluation Lab” (PEEL) is to support transitions in health care pathways by experimenting and proposing innovative evaluation and design methodologies based on the health experience. It is organised around three complementary approaches: a circle of interdisciplinary reflection on the challenges of the experience of participants in health care pathways/patient pathways, work on the construction of new methodologies for analysing and designing the patient experience, and the implementation of experiments with these methodologies. By combining the academic strengths of LS2N (University of Nantes) and Care Design Lab (Nantes Atlantique School of Design) with the skills of the agencies Sensipode, Moswo and AIA, the IIP will lead a strategic reflection on transitions in health, contribute to the methodological construction work feeding the experiments which will themselves be conducted around the collection and analysis of experience data on a health field.

IIP – HIP XP

At the heart of the major societal transitions, housing is the focus of many challenges, including that of inclusion and citizen participation. The Interdisciplinary Innovation Programme “Inclusive Shared Housing Experience” (Hip Xp) is based on the Participe 3.0 project, which aims to co-develop digital tools for young autistic adults currently living in specialised closed structures at the Résidence Sociale 49, in order to help them gain access to an inclusive shared habitat with a view to autonomy and full participation. The exploration of the user experience is involved at all levels of this project, in order to understand the lived experience, the impact of these tools and the process of citizen co-creation on daily life. The participatory research programme involves young people with autism, but also family carers, peer carers and professionals on whom the support relies. Around this central project, the IIP will make it possible to question the dimensions of the user experience of the habitat.

IIP – IA&A

Artificial intelligence is now one of the driving forces behind the digital transition that is impacting many sectors of activity. Its efficient use remains a challenge which raises the question of its acceptability. Studies on the conditions and/or quality of integration of these tools and the automation they allow, focus on specific aspects such as expected performance gains, acceptability or the confidence granted by users to these systems. Stemming from monodisciplinary approaches, few research works focus on the effects of these automations on the user experience. The Artificial Intelligence and Acceptability (AI&A) IIP therefore aims to address the problem of acceptability of AI technologies from a multidisciplinary and user-centred perspective. It will draw on the expertise in AI and user experience evaluation of the LS2N (University of Nantes) as well as on the methodological expertise in user experience design (UX Design) and innovation of the Digital Design Lab (L’École de design Nantes Atlantique), in order to address the concrete problems raised by various fields of application, including those of the SIGMA group, which is one of the first partners in this IIP.
